Harrisonburg-Massanutten Rotary Club

The Harrisonburg Massanutten Rotary Club was charted in June of
1992 to promote the 100 year Rotary tradition of service above self by
serving our local community and those in need throughout the world.
Our club supports many local organizations including the Harrisonburg &
Rockingham County Free Clinic and Friendship Industries through our
annual Volleyball Springfest fundraiser. Since 1992 this event has raised
over $170,000 for these two organizations.
We help meet the needs of our local elementary schools each year by
providing complete school supply kits for dozens of young students. During
each holiday season we provide support to First Step, an organization that
offers support and shelter to victims of domestic violence, food boxes for
25 families to The Salvation Army, and club-wide support of the Salvation
Army’s bell ringing fundraiser.
In Jan of 2005 our partnership with Dean Steel provided a fire truck to
Mazatlan Mexico, a city on the Pacific coast with a population of 723,000
and only 4 fire trucks, compared to Harrisonburg and Rockingham Country
with a population of 110,000 and over 50 fire trucks.
Our members support the goals of Rotary International Project Literacy by
reading to elementary school K-2 children each day of the week in several
city and county schools.
Our Rotary International projects include support to Shelterbox, a charity
conceived and launched by Rotarians in January 2001 which has provided
emergency aid for victims of natural and other disasters to over 800,000
people in more than 52 countries.
Our friendly, smaller club atmosphere provides a vibrant opportunity to
discover the Rotary experience – strengthening fellowships, promoting
high ethical standards, live the Rotary motto of service above self – an
experience enjoyed by 1.2 million members in nearly 33,000 clubs
worldwide.
Rebuilding Together believes in a safe and healthy home for every person.
This means that we believe disabled and aging homeowners should be able
to remain in their homes for as long as possible. We believe that
homeowners displaced by natural disaster will get back into safe housing
with help from the community. We believe that our nation’s veterans with
disabilities deserve safe and accessible homes. Rebuilding Together
believes we can preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize
communities by providing free home modifications and repairs, making
homes safer, more accessible, and more energy efficient.
Harrisonburg Massanutten Rotary Club has teamed up with Rebuilding
Together Harrisonburg Rockingham County to complete a much needed home
modification for a young man who uses a wheelchair. On October 24, the
Harrisonburg Massanutten Rotary Club will be building a ramp that will
empower this young man to be able to enter and exit his home
independently.
Members of the
Rotary Club are
getting ready to
start a ramp, so the
site work is first.
